A urine infection is often called a urinary tract infection (or simply, UTI) by doctors. Most urine infections are caused by germs (bacteria) that come from your own bowel. They are usually easily treated with a short course of an antibacterial medicine such as nitrofurantoin.

Why this PGD?

  • Treating urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by bacteria in adults and children aged three months and over.
  • Preventing UTIs from coming back in people who get recurrent infections.
  • Preventing UTIs in people having a surgical procedure on the bladder or urinary tract.

For the treatment of and prophylaxis against acute or recurrent, uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections or pyelitis either spontaneous or following surgical procedures.
